Just pondering on the phenomenon of inflating a blog, site or a net existence. Isn’t just the whole social media thing a kind of mind-inflation. All the information flowing inflates your mind and get you in a loop checking and pumping up the friend quota to prove your own existence and inflating yourself even more - again and again and again until…
If you arent in on FriendFeed. Sign up. And, hate to say it again like Liv Ullman once did in a Bergman movie; “SAY something!” (Just discovered a small bug … or glitch in the plug in. If you post two post in a short interval they will appear as one post in the FriendFeed. So please comment in the post below.)
It has been a pretty long pause in the posts on wh1ne. Maybe because the author got bored of the navelgazing chit-chattering early-adopter-social-web-von-oben-community. Not much sense was coming out of the life-maelstrom. Anyway, today I read on ReadWriteWeb that there is a plug-in that integrates FriendFeed to Worpress and what could be better than trying it out on wh1ne.com. And when you already are here, like Liv Ullman once said in a Bergman movie; “SAY something!”
Yep, whats happening in Europe. Are we just trying to get a hold of whats going on in the US in the social & semantic web area, or are we contributing too? I don’t know, I cant think of any really interesting European projects at the moment. Maybe Im awfully wrong. The Brits have some interesting sites and adaptations but nothing BIG. hmm - thefilter.com? - hardly not. Is this what “setting the agenda” is really about? Are we just going to populate the American social media room… or maybe make our own… Probably not. Imagine a multilingual bureaucratic multifunctional Eurobook or Twitler? Sorry, I’m just wh1ning. *-* - I also learned that both sites already exists, alas not in their optimal form yet… yalla!
Check in on Japan. They have the widest use of mobiles and 3G in the world. Now the americans are buzzing over moobile. Mobile is the future. Yeah, moobile is the future! Well I agree, and the reason why is that mobiles are cash-machines… today u pay to access with your mobile, except on WiFis. Some are even willing to pay for MSN messages (at least some are in here in Sweden..)
In time we are not going to pay for obsolete services, just for the access to the net… .and then its not that fun for corporations…exept maybe for some of the content providers and API holders. So whats my point. Hmm I’m allergic to buzzwords, and Im just a swede thinking the yanks should climb out of the tunnel (you know Internet is woorldwiide) and check in on the japs, cause they are all moobile. Yalla!
I don’t know, but from my remote position the web (at least the early-adopter- american-web) seems to be in some sort of landslide. Web 2.0 goes Web 3.0, goes social, goes semantic, goes mash-up, goes lifestream… phew!!. So far the only fragments of a new paradigm is the excitement about “the new”. And that new is what its all about, a mash-up of buzzwords, mixup theory and pretty common techniques. The battle to get initiative to formulate what this new is, a battle for glory, immortality and the opportunity to sell existing techniques in new clothes. That battle seems to happen on Twitter right now. And the Twitter metaphors are quite telling. Friends & Followers. Chew it, boys (and the occational girl)! I will just stand by and wh1ne.
Just wondering if there is some form of mass-hysteria regarding social web, friend feeds and…. thats right, TWITTER. Isn’t the phenomenon just a movement of early adopters… early adopters that in the same sentence hypes Jaiku, Friendster, Friend Feed, last.fm, yelp etc etc etc etc and puts Facebook in the same basket as Microsoft and Google. Meanwhile MySpace is growing and Facebook stalling… MSN is as big as ever and the movement of the masses is as slow as it ever was… has anything really happened or is it just that its a new generation of early adopters jumping on trains trying to outrun each other.
btw - give Twitter some slack… I think its in their interest to be available… just imagine their situation… “Shall we continue on this platform, try to mend the holes or switch to another… will we loose all the momentum ehhhhhhrrrgh ….” >>> ( a k a wh1ne….). wh1nes remedy: Step 1: Chill out. Step 2: Use e-mail or phone to communicate. Step 3: Check in on Twitter in six months.
Well I dont know if he is world famous, but he definitely should be. 1938media.com and Loren Feldman is a definitive subscription and a given candidate for the wh1ne awards (soon to be announced). Just to follow Lorens battle against TechCrunchs Mike Arrington is worth it.
Yalla! (Here is an pretty hilariuos and interresting interview with c|nets reporter Dan Farber. )
So today i aint gonna write nothin’….hmm but I got a bit disappointed on Wordpress. Maybe I have missed something but I thougt you could use the page function to ditribute posts. It seems that page is just a single-side-post. The more I look into Wordpress the more I like Skeleton CMS. ( pure narcisism or scientific observation, who can tell ??)
First step is to install and write just something. // Nevermind the Swedish. Maybe its more fun to run it in English even if im not native… Very vell, this experiment is going to evolve both visually and semantically. Step one ist to make the head-design. I think it will be something Bosh/Dali like… or maybe a bit pulpish…. hmmmm.
